I can’t get enough of the leaves!
I absolutely love fall. It’s my favorite season, and my favorite part of fall is the leaves. The forest seems to come alive and rejoice in a riot of red, orange and yellow. It’s a photographer’s dream. This year I traveled to Colorado to try to catch the fall colors, but I didn’t need to go so far. Mt. Lemmon has wonderful pockets of foliage if you know where to look. The gold, red and orange leaves pop out from various hidden pockets and I’m always game to find some new patches. I took these with my Sony NEX-5 point and shoot – thanks to the modeling and lens work (and hiking and riding) of Sarah (my fiance) and my friend Topher. And that’s me in red on my mountain bike.
Colorado Trip
October weekend are for weddings, if you’re a wedding photographer, but when you get a free one, they’re for fall colors. Sarah and I jumped on a plane for Denver this weekend, knowing we were flying into the winter storm of the season, a week past the peak. We had a wonderful time anyway, because the Rockies (and our friends and family there) are just amazing like that.
We stayed one night at the Hotel Boulderado – I’ve wanted to stay here forever, and it was within walking distance of everything. I look forward to shooting a wedding here some day as well!
Sarah and I rode bikes up Boulder Canyon, with some splashy fall color! For a bike path, it really is one of the nicest mellow rides in the country, and if I lived there again, I’d ride it every day. I also got in nice loop of singletrack above Boulder at Betasso Park on a sweet Giant 29′r Anthem X, a bike I’d been curious to try, from Full Cycle. Turns out it rides like a bike – whoa!
We spent another night in Estes Park and visited the Stanley Hotel. It was the inspiration for (but not the actual cinematic scene of) the movie The Shining, but it still feels kind of cool/spooky. They do weddings here, right on the courtyard. I could make some seriously amazing photos here. And some pretty funny Shining flavored photos too. In the morning, we visited Rocky Mountain National Park where we fell in love with the layers and light – and all the animals. I’ve been working on a collection of images from national parks. Some of these will definitely make the cut.
Sarah at the Acacia
It’s not every day that you get to see your fiance in a gorgeous designer wedding dress – usually just your wedding. Well, here’s my lovely bride-to-be, Sarah, in a trio of fantastic Pronovias dresses, courtesy of GiGi’s Bridal Boutique, during a shoot for The Acacia B+B yesterday. Posh Petals brought the flowers and Sarah brought the beaming smiles! Isn’t she just unbelievably beautiful? I’ve thought that since the moment I first saw her, and I think that every day. How are we going to decide which one to use?
