Cirque du Couture for Tu Nidito

I’ve been a big fan of Tu Nidito’s work with children in tough situations since I first covered their events while working at the newspaper. I’ve had the chance to do some volunteer photography work with them over the years, and you can’t help but have your heart melt when you meet some of the kids they’ve helped. Both the organization and their fundraising efforts have come such a long way over the years!

Sarah and I spent last night making photos at their high-fashion fundraiser Cirque du Couture, held at Casino del Sol and sponsored by the Tucson Ladies Council.  It was truly a gala event, with a who’s-who guest list, remarkable Cirque-themed decor and performers, incredible food from Tucson’s finest, auctions with amazing swag, a stunning runway show, and a riotous after party with Tucson retro-rockers Eighties and Gentlemen.  It was a roaring success and a darn good time.

Here are a few teasers, and those interested in the full take can register here to get an email when they’re posted (and get a nifty little gift certificate towards prints to boot.)  Hats off to all those who worked so hard to make last night an amazing success, and many thanks to the donors who so generously helped insure Tu Nidito’s future good works!

I can’t get enough of the leaves!

I absolutely love fall. It’s my favorite season, and my favorite part of fall is the leaves. The forest seems to come alive and rejoice in a riot of red, orange and yellow. It’s a photographer’s dream. This year I traveled to Colorado to try to catch the fall colors, but I didn’t need to go so far. Mt. Lemmon has wonderful pockets of foliage if you know where to look. The gold, red and orange leaves pop out from various hidden pockets and I’m always game to find some new patches. I took these with my Sony NEX-5 point and shoot – thanks to the modeling and lens work (and hiking and riding) of Sarah (my fiance) and my friend Topher. And that’s me in red on my mountain bike.
