Here’s a quick post with a few of my favorite images from last night’s truly unique wedding at the Reid Park Zoo. It was my first time covering a wedding at the zoo, and it was both fantastic and memorable!
I caught up with Anthony and Nicole at Loew’s Ventana Canyon for some getting ready photos and an early afternoon “first look” – the plan was to shoot portraits of the two of them around the grounds for a bit, but a surprise afternoon rainstorm kept us indoors. Fortunately, Loew’s is pretty on the inside too, and the skies cleared up long enough for a brief venture outside before we headed off for the zoo.
Their ceremony was a relaxed and informal one, set on the lush green edge of the Zoo’s pond. They had family, a few close friends and a flock of curious flamingos on hand to witness their tearful, hearfelt vows and the wild applause that followed.
Afterwards, we walked over to the much-anticipated highlight of the reception, a chance to feed the giraffes! They are truly magnificent animals, but there’s really nothing that can prepare you for the giant black tongues that come snaking out of their mouthes in search of the carrot sticks you hold. It was easy to get a bit slimed, and the squeals were equal parts shock and delight!
Congratulations you two – everyone had a fabulous time, and we won’t soon forget the sound of the lion roaring in the night as we danced amidst the jungle foliage!
